Jigsaw Interior Architecture was commissioned by Amirez Developments to provide a full interior architectural specification for two luxury 4 bedroom homes on Minterne Rd, situated moments from Poole Harbour. The design took on a minimal, yet natural style with one property, Ceres, having a predominantly light, white interior whereas Cora has a darker more dramatic feel. This use of natural, raw materials is most evident in the two kitchens designed by Jigsaw Interior Architecture. In Ceres the kitchen design is very minimal with a crisp and clean lined off white Silestone worktop with soft veining for a subtle marble effect. The cabinetry is completely flush, finished in either a matt white or a light ash finish and the minimal design cleverly incorporates a hidden door through to the utility room beyond. Large format tiling on the floor in an elegant limestone effect adds to the airy sense of serenity, light and spaciousness in the kitchen.
By way of contrast Jigsaw Interior Architecture designed the kitchen in Cora next door using a much darker and richer palette.
In Cora the kitchen is grounded by an island finished in a rich espresso coloured Antico quartz, which at the same time as looking extremely luxurious is also incredibly hard wearing and practical. Antico and Silestone worktops are very scratch resistant. This strong charcoal element contrasts beautifully with the light ash finish of the cabinetry for a dynamic and luxurious look. Jigsaw Interior Architecture’s goal was to use more natural, raw materials. Selecting warmer tones in the tiling, all ironmongery and brassware is made from a warm brushed nickel; the timber and tiered level of bespoke concrete cladding above it in the kitchen all go back to softer more natural tones.
We agreed with Amirez Developments that there wouldn’t be any shiny chrome used anywhere in the houses, instead the sinks are either taupe or white, the same colours as the different worktops to tie into the kitchen scheme.
Both properties have over-high internal doors throughout, specially commissioned by local craftsmen from oiled black oak which creates another point of contrast set against the crisp white painted walls. These dark and moodier design elements are complemented in several areas by feature walls which have been decorated in a grey textured wallpaper.
Other dark accents feature throughout the houses from the handrails that edge the glass balustrades on the staircases, to the towel rails and other hardware in the bathrooms, all echoing the dark charcoal window frames in both properties.
There is a sheer fabric recessed within the glass panels for the staircase balustrade which looks beautiful when viewed close up and which subtly glistens when viewed from a distance.
Jigsaw Interior Architecture’s lighting scheme for both Cora and Ceres was a key feature of the interior architectural design. The most striking feature in both is a grouping of organically shaped hand-blown glass pendant lights by Rothschild and Vickers in the double height entrance hallways. As these pendants are crafted from hand-blown glass each has its own distinctive and unique beauty. When staggered at different heights across the double height space the create a breath-taking design statement
In the bathrooms Jigsaw Interior Architecture added LED strip lighting to afford a sense of drama in the bathrooms, allowing a bathtub to seemingly float off the ground and also highlights the relief in areas of geometric tiling.
Feature ceiling lights from Holloways of Ludlow and Wever and Ducre elevate the minimal, monochromatic bathrooms from being merely stylish and luxurious, to bathrooms that set themselves apart by making an arresting design feature.
For Jigsaw Interior Architecture the philosophy of “less is more” allowed an understated sense of luxury feel to permeate throughout the interior architecture, where the selection of luxurious materials is allowed to shine in harmonious pairings. It was wonderful working in partnership with Amirez Developments to see our shared refined and understated aesthetic realised through attention to detail and their quality craftsmanship.
