The brief was to create a modern country feel – elevated yet liveable – while ensuring the home would resonate with prospective buyers in the current, more challenging housing market. With material costs at an all-time high and buyer confidence harder to secure, it was essential that the property was dressed to an exceptional standard to support a swift and successful sale.

Designed to Sell in a Competitive Market

Millgate Homes, a highly regarded Winchester-based developer known for high-end residential homes typically sold between £1–2 million, appointed us to style the show home for its next chapter as a rental show home, available to purchase with the property.

Having worked previously with Rob, the Director at Millgate Homes, on two earlier rental show homes – both of which have since sold – there was already clear evidence that this approach works. Little Dunthrop represents the latest development in that ongoing success story.

Thoughtful Window Treatments & Elevated Functionality

One of the key challenges of the project was addressing less desirable external views. Window treatments were included in every room, carefully designed to soften the outlook and ensure the exterior was never a distraction from the interior experience.

In rooms overlooking the back garden, particularly the master bedroom, we installed extended curtain tracks with double treatments. Neutral wave curtains were paired with a sheer Roman blind, allowing flexibility – screening neighbouring properties when required while still maintaining light and softness.

All other rear-facing windows were also given layered solutions, combining lined Roman blinds fitted to the outer recess with sheer Roman blinds within the inner recess. This approach provided both privacy and elegance, enhancing the overall sense of calm throughout the home.

Seamless Living, Designed for Modern Lifestyles

The light-filled living spaces flow effortlessly into a sleek, modern kitchen with generous island seating – ideal for both everyday living and entertaining. Sculptural furniture, layered textures, and considered lighting create a warm yet elevated atmosphere, striking a balance between relaxed luxury and practical appeal.

Bedrooms are styled as inviting retreats, with tactile finishes and thoughtful details enhancing comfort. To better reflect the generous proportions of the principal bedroom, we upgraded the space with a super king bed, reinforcing the sense of understated luxury.

Furniture throughout the home was carefully selected to complement the modern country aesthetic, ensuring cohesion while allowing buyers to imagine themselves living there.

As with the two previous show homes we styled, buyers have shown strong interest not only in the property itself but also in purchasing pieces of the rental furniture – further demonstrating the impact of thoughtful, aspirational interior design.

The final result is a timeless, beautifully considered home that showcases both the quality of the Little Dunthrop development and its suitability for modern rental living.
