After successfully transforming their Sandbanks Peninsula home, our private clients re-engaged Jigsaw Interior Architecture to undertake the renovation and extension of their Victorian townhouse in Chiswick. Tasked with providing a comprehensive interior architecture and design package, we aimed to deliver a space that is as functional as it is beautiful while honouring the building’s historical integrity.

The cornerstone of our approach was reconfiguring the layout to better suit the demands of modern family living. We prioritised the optimisation of space, the enhancement of natural light, and the preservation of the home’s refined Victorian proportions. Original period features were carefully preserved to maintain the character of the house, while new interventions were seamlessly integrated to amplify its sense of sophistication.

A dramatic full-height wall of black Crittall-framed windows in the kitchen floods the heart of the home with light, establishing a striking contrast to the surrounding traditional details. Similarly, a sleek new staircase with charcoal metal balustrades introduces a contemporary edge, balancing the interplay between old and new.

The design’s material palette was carefully curated to ensure cohesion and harmony throughout the home. Luxurious yet practical finishes—including richly veined, large-format composite marble, durable vinyl, and sisal-style carpeting—were selected for their timeless appeal and durability. These materials complement the home’s natural and technical elements, creating a layered aesthetic that feels both rich and understated.
