INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN

Location

KINGHAM, OXFORDSHIRE

Jigsaw Interior Architecture was commissioned by a private client to provide a full interior architecture and interior design package to modernise this former traditional stone farm outbuilding with a comprehensive and transformative design.

Our goal was to achieve a stylish new look whilst also honouring the natural beauty of the local environment and without compromising the integrity of the existing building by losing any key original features.

Our primary design intent was to focus on infusing as much light and softness throughout the building with the aim of creating a point of contrast with the existing exposed stone walls. By replacing the dark and uneven tiled flooring with a light and uniform new limestone floor tile throughout we ensured a sense of cohesion and flow between both the old and new areas of the property.

It is through exercising restraint within the design scheme and by celebrating materials that a truly luxurious look is achieved

Numerous bespoke joinery elements were meticulously designed not only to suit the client’s everyday needs, but also to maximise the sense of space in a relatively narrow building. Jigsaw’s uniquely tailored joinery designs for this building hint at traditional forms and techniques, whilst remaining true to the client’s love of minimalism and purity in design imparted through their cultural heritage. Traditional materials such as wood, leather, limestone, brushed- brass and black metal were used in a contemporary way and selected for their timeless quality and tendency to develop a beautiful patina over time.

The kitchen and bathrooms are the most striking design elements which truly reflect Jigsaw’s overall ethos in this project; that through the simplicity of our design we allow the quality and essence of each material to be showcased. It is through exercising restraint within the design in these areas and by celebrating the materials selected that a truly luxurious look is achieved. The quality of the materials specified speaks for itself and the relationship between materials, such as contrasting warm timber with cool rough cut stone, affords the finished design a really high end feel.

“The Jigsaw team are like a family, and they took every aspect of my project very personally with their thoughtful and experienced eye, and I have really enjoyed working with them on Felloes Barn.”
