A Heritage Reimagined: Jigsaw Interior Design Transforms a Grade II Listed Mayfair Property
Grade II Listed Property, Mayfair
CommercialSEPTEMBER 2025
INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
MAYFAIR, LONDON
Set along one of Mayfair’s most prestigious shopping streets, our latest project presented both an honour and a challenge: transforming a tired Grade II listed building into three levels of contemporary offices topped with a luxurious penthouse apartment. Completed in September 2025 for our long-standing client, Reichmann Properties, the project stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful restoration, meticulous research, and strong professional collaboration.
A Trusted Partnership with Reichmann Properties
Our relationship with Reichmann Properties spans many years, built on trust, transparency, and a shared appreciation for elevated design. Their confidence in our approach allowed us the freedom to deliver a scheme that not only enhanced the building’s historic fabric but also increased the long-term value of the asset. With just a handful of sign-off meetings, the process was smooth and efficient – proof of the strong rapport we’ve established over time.
Designing for Heritage: A Responsibility We Embrace
Working within a Grade II listed building meant every design decision had to respect the building’s original character. Key interior elements, such as the wall panelling, door profiles, and architectural detailing, were protected. Because of this, significant parts of the scheme required review by Westminster’s Heritage Department.
To support the planning process, we collaborated closely with the architectural team and dedicated Heritage Consultants. Together, we produced detailed drawings, precedent studies, and research-driven documentation that clearly communicated the intention behind each intervention.
This included:
– Detailed section drawings of the original panelling to ensure every profile matched the architectural era.
– Research into historical door styles to preserve authenticity while allowing for modern performance.
– A comprehensive Heritage Report, reflecting both expert guidance and our own forensic research into the building’s past.
The result? A proposal that was sensitive to the original architecture, carefully articulated, and fully aligned with Westminster’s heritage standards – earning the approvals required to move the project forward.
Blending History with Contemporary Luxury
Our design approach was rooted in a simple but powerful goal: honour the building’s heritage while introducing modern comforts and aesthetic refinement. This thoughtful juxtaposition is visible throughout the property, where period detailing sits confidently alongside contemporary elements.
Standout moments include:
– Traditional panelling paired with modern lighting, featuring elegant fittings by Wever & Ducré.
– Heritage-appropriate door designs, updated through premium craftsmanship by Metal Door.
– The introduction of subtle, high-end finishes that elevate daily experience without overwhelming the building’s historic character.
These touches create a unique balance – spaces that feel rich with history, yet tailored to the expectations of today’s discerning occupants.
A Design That Performs
At Jigsaw, our design philosophy extends beyond aesthetics. We design interiors that work hard for both the user and the asset owner. In this project, thoughtful design choices add real value – creating office suites and a penthouse that stand apart in a competitive Mayfair market.
Our work helps:
– Attract premium tenants
– Enhance long-term property value
– Strengthen brand identity for owners and occupiers
– Improve daily experience through function-led detailing
The transformation is visible not only in the building’s renewed elegance, but in the performance of the spaces themselves.
Learning from the Past, Designing for the Future
One of the richest takeaways from this project was deepening our expertise in designing within the constraints of a listed building. Engaging so closely with historic fabric, navigating heritage frameworks, and collaborating with specialist consultants further strengthened our understanding of working in sensitive contexts.
It reinforced something we believe deeply: true design excellence emerges when the past is respected, the present is considered, and the future is elevated.
