INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
WEST MALLING, KENT
In April 2025, Richard Brewer, CEO of Magrock, partnered with Jigsaw Interior Architecture to create a workspace that truly inspires and supports his team while enhancing everyday functionality. With a clear and considered brief, Richard highlighted key priorities including staff welfare areas and thoughtfully planned room sizes - laying the foundation for a design that balances wellbeing, efficiency, and exceptional spatial experience.
We began with a generous 645m² blank canvas – an expansive, open space defined by high ceilings and a striking central vaulted roof that floods the interior with natural light. Guided by a clear and purposeful brief, the design focused on carefully planned meeting rooms, efficient workstation layouts, and well-considered spatial proportions. At the heart of the scheme was a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, with the welfare area identified as a key priority – ensuring the finished workspace not only performs seamlessly but also supports and enhances the everyday experience of the Magrock team.
Our Jigsaw team began with Stage 1: high-level layouts and design concepts. Melissa developed three distinct zoning options for the client’s consideration, each exploring different ways to balance flow, function, and experience. From this, one preferred scheme was refined into detailed CAD plans, alongside the development of a coordinated material palette.
Reflecting Maglock’s expertise in delivering industrial, commercial, logistics, and retail environments, the design carefully embraced a language of modern industrial finishes with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Materiality played a pivotal role particularly in addressing the scale of the space. To enhance acoustics within the high ceilings, a suspended acoustic louvred panel system was introduced, seamlessly integrating lighting while softening sound.
A warm, rust-toned carpet was selected to complement the striking Corten metal partition wall, creating a cohesive and grounded aesthetic. This was beautifully balanced with the introduction of faux green walls and planting around the workstation areas, bringing texture, contrast, and a sense of wellbeing into the workspace.
A refined palette of modern industrial finishes such as Corten steal was combined with acoustic felt panelling which softened the industrial design with warmer textures and layered details.
From the outset, our team was tasked with creating a standout welfare space where the Magrock team could relax, recharge, and connect. Recognising the diverse needs of a multi-generational workforce, the design evolved to include two distinct areas: a vibrant bar space for social interaction, and a quieter zone designed for informal conversations or moments of calm, with individual booths for quiet working and smaller team meetings.
Material selection was central to achieving the right balance of atmosphere and function. A refined palette of modern industrial finishes such as Corten steal was combined with acoustic felt panelling which softened the industrial design with warmer textures and layered details, creating spaces that feel both contemporary and welcoming but reflecting the company’s identity clearly.
